The RetinaVue 100 Imager Retinal Camera is a portable hand-held machine that is quick, easy to use and convenient for the patient.  The image is transmitted securely to board-certified and state-licensed ophthalmologists and retina specialists with timely interpretation and reporting to PCP. 

• 92250 billable by PCP (e.g., BCBSM $76.23) with 2022F

• $150 weekly rental from IHP

Rentals are scheduled on a weekly basis at $150.00/week plus $20.00 per patient for interpretation, payable to IHP.  IHP will train identified office user(s) when the machine is delivered.

Tips for Success

  • Prepare your office for success
    • Identifyyour office user(s) and plan for them to be successful
    • Definea space for exams (dimly lit room), WIFI access
    • IdentifyPatients from Gaps in Care list who need a retina screening exam
    • Schedulepatients in 15 minute increments for retina exam only
    • Codeappropriately for reimbursement and to close the gap
      • CPT 92250
      • CPT II 2022F (BCN, BCBSM, HAP, Humana)
      • CPT II 3072F - low risk for retinopathy; negative exam (BCN, BCBSM)
    • Schedule enough training time with the IHP trainer
  • Prepare your patients for success
    • Talkto patients and let them know
      • Retinal screening is important in Diabetic patients (remember they can be asymptomatic with changes present)
      • Scheduling an appointment will be a quick and easy way to ensure their eye health and no out of pocket cost! (may vary with plan)
      • Completing the screening will allow the provider to better assist in their diabetic care
    • Removelight sources - NO patient use of cellphone, iPad, Kindle, etc.
      • Minimum of 5 minutes prior to first screen and one minute between eyes                            = 90% success rate for diagnostic images
      • Keep BOTH eyes open during the screening, but cover non-screening eye with the patient’s hand

    • Choose a location for screening with WIFI access
